Consulting Services
Consulting services is the work which precedes the production of traditional engineering deliverables (such as specifications for the purchase of equipment or construction drawings for contractors). Clients regularly ask us to draw upon our OEM experience and our power plant design experience to help them with issues pertaining to thermal power, but which fall outside of traditional mechanical and electrical engineering for buildings. Examples of what we call consulting services include:
- Betterment and debottlenecking of existing operating steam and power plants.
- Boiler troubleshooting, specifically, fuels, combustion, heat transfer, fans, air heaters, economizers, pulverizers, and fuel piping.
- Acting as Independent Engineer for lenders, investors, or private equity, with respect to the value of existing energy plants or proposed power plants. We are regularly asked to assess whether “the technology can deliver the proforma”.
- Boiler and power plant performance testing.
- Analysis and/or design of power cycles.
- Analyzing whether extensions to existing District Energy plants are both technically and financially viable and assisting with business case development.
- Developing Energy Service Agreements for Energy Service Providers and facilitating the relationship between the Energy Service Provider and the industrial or institutional energy host, starting with Business Principles and then turning those business principles into fair and balanced Energy Services Agreements.
- Designing rates for Energy Service Providers. In fact, rate design is one of our core competencies. We help customers turn first costs and running costs into capacity and energy charges in those cases where technology is used to sell both electrical power and thermal energy in the form of steam or hot water.
- Helping customers secure Standard Offer contracts and all the technical requirements which go into obtaining standard offer contracts.
