History

CEM was established in early 2001 by Martin Lensink. Martin decided to establish an engineering consulting firm, focusing primarily on cogeneration and energy management with the goal of providing solutions to the energy and environmental sectors. Martin had worked in the energy sector for 21 years before starting CEM. The most recent 15 years involved almost exclusively cogeneration projects.

Martin gained his natural gas/LDC perspective on cogeneration and energy management between 1982 and 1989, while employed with Union Gas. He acquired his engineering perspective and depth on cogeneration while employed by SNC Lavalin/W.P. London between 1990 and 1993. He became especially knowledgeable on combustion gas turbine generators and heat recovery steam generators while employed by Rolls-Royce/U.S. Turbine between 1993 and 1998.

Finally, he came to an appreciation of the role of the energy services provider and how projects are financed and capital cost recovered in three very valuable years with Toromont Energy between 1998 and 2001. Martin often jokes that he had a 21 year apprenticeship period before starting CEM Engineering.
